Bioclimatic -  Beekeeping and Science

What is bioclimatic;

It is the exploitation of environmentally friendly forms of energy (solar and wind) to heat or cool a space.

What relationship exists between insulation and bioclimatic;

With insulation, trying to prevent the heat exchange between a space and the environment, while the bioclimatic to cause the heat exchange whenever we choose! So the insulated beehives is not bioclimatic, nor can work bioclimatic. Neither simple beehives can work bioclimatic, in any case!

 

Science and bioclimatic beehives. 

From previous decades already, many scientists and research groups both in our country and abroad, have experimented with various types of bioclimatic beehives, trying to discover the benefits of this technology to the development of colonies. As an illustration, the following experiments. 

In Greece:

Years 94-94-96 became a research on the implementation of environmentally friendly energy and bioclimatic, beekeeping, from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Technological Institute of Piraeus, funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

What the experiments showed the Greeks scientists bioclimatic beehives:

Experiments were carried out for three consecutive years, namely: Winter - Spring of years 1994-95-96, where three different beehives that had different types of energy aspects.

The measurements showed:

Spring: The hives have given and three years, more spawn, which reached even 60% compared with simple beehives.

Summer - Autumn of the years 1995-6, which also used three different beehives with three different "chimneys" heat dissipation. The measurements showed that the Autumn the hives have given more spawn who reached even 100% compared with simple cells.

Abroad:

The experiments were performed on three Israeli scientists, coastal Israel, the months of January, February and March 2001. It should be noted that the climatic conditions these months in that region, are similar to those prevailing in Greece, two months later about the difference in latitude between the two countries. In other words, these experiments would have similar effects if it were held in our country in quarter March, April, May - ie in spring! The three Israeli scientists wanted to study the effect of solar heating on the bees.

The conclusions reached are very impressive!

Specifically found that the brood bees grew by 59% in beehives experiment that exploit solar heat when the same period fell by 8.4%, common beehives

During the experiments, those colonies living in beehives that could collect solar heat, gave 20,8 kg honey / colony, while those colonies lived in common beehives, gave only 10.2 kg honey / colony. Proved beyond any doubt that higher temperatures prevailing within the Solar Heated beehives during the day, leading to faster growth of   brood bees in larger bees populations in much greater production of honey per hive - twice over!
The results of this study show that even in subtropical climates (such as the climate of the Mediterranean countries) beehives that can exploit sunlight spring contribute to greater rearing of brood bees and, thereafter, at the highest production of honey.  http://www.apiservices.com/articles/us/solar_heating.htm

Conclusion:

The Energy Bioclimatic beehives contribute to rapid growth of colonies, both spring and autumn, and hence the largest harvest honey!
